So yeah, I relocated to Iceland about a month ago. .

A couple months ago I stumbled upon a job opening at CCPgames and applied for the concept art position for EVE ONLINE

I applied there because:
A. working at home simply didn´t cut it for me anymore.
B. If I was going to work in a studio, sci-fi related art and working overseas would be a blessing.

After 2 interviews I was given an Art test. The aim was to create a budget version of the Captain quarters for the Amarr race.
Below is the end result:

CCP art test - Amarr Captain

‘Asgeir’ (Art director of Eve Online) liked it, so I landed the job!
(mind that on some firefox browsers the contrast is too high when you open the image)

AND NOW!!

Upon hearing the news Dan Llimatta made this hilarious speedpaint!! Me as an Eve spaceship flying around with a paintbucket :) More of Dan’s work can be found HERE.

Our stuff, packed and ready to be shipped to Iceland.

Man.. was I happy with the prospect of exchanging shitty Zaandam for Reykjavik and start somewhere anew..

Here’s a picture of our stuff, all packed and ready to be shipped to Iceland. The cargo includes 2 personal computers, a big Samsung TV, PS3, PS2, a Roland, Bassguitar, bassguitar chair, and more..

Vika was also delighted to leave her base in Holland and move to Iceland with me. Actually ‘her base’ is virtually anywhere since she can work from any place in the world (as long as she has her Roland). If you don’t know Vika, then be sure to check out some of her cover arrangements on youtube (search term: vkgoeswild). Funny enough she was recognised at CCP almost instantly as she started popping up on screens around the office. That was somewhat weird at first.. but those days are over now.

She’s become a CCP regular and is currently following a nitting course there on Mondays.
Two Days ago she played her first non-classical gig in Poland. Here is a small preview of a much longer edit that will be released soon.

Doesn’t she look like a sort of fluffy Cat? Tapping away on the Piano..

So what is there to say about CCP? So far, it’s very positive.. The people are friendly and fun. The work is cool and the art pipeline is quite effective and comforting. There is a CCP kitchen that provides (free of charge) Breakfast, Lunch, and diner (twice a week). And untill December there will be diner everyday! I can’t tell you how much cash this will save me, and the food is good.

CCP HQ located at a very nice spot, looking out over a shipbreaker yard, with a good view of the mountains, boats, and the town. I’ll provide some pictures soon.

The office itself is also nice to walk around in. While getting my coffee I often stop by a big aquarium located on my floor to look at a collection of exotic fish.
Also all the office spaces have high ceilings which is quite important to me.. It allows me to feel more creative and less ‘locked in’ somehow.

In another blogpost I’ll get more into my impressions of Iceland and the people. But what the guys from ‘CCP Art’ are saying in this video pretty much nails it for the most part.
Esp. after 1.41 when Benjamin (art manager) and Borkur (lead artist) have their say. I think there is a certain ‘magic’ and tranquillity to Iceland that I haven’t encountered anywhere else.

CCP is inspired by Iceland from Inspired By Iceland on Vimeo.

Another things is that the people here have the tendency to settle down quite early. For instance, most Icelandic people of my age are already having kids and being parents! I have to say, there is something looming in the air here which is almost like a whisper telling you to settle down and procreate.. I know how strange and esoteric that sounds, but right now I can’t do better in describing how It feels. Rest assured assured though!! I don’t want any kids – yet.. Really not!!

It´s been ages since my last blog update and I regret not keeping it up to date. But like I said, more about Iceland and the people later. This is it for now. Cheers!

Meet sir Thomas Schmall. Here’s a small video I edited of the opening from his first art exhibition.

He was my art Lead for 3 years at streamline-studios and I learned a lot from him.

Today he is attempting to pursue a career in fine-arts. But as so many of us find out, that’s much easier said then done.
To read more about this and his unique views on art and science, I highly recommend subscribing to his Blog: OXPAL

You Can Act! by D.W. Brown

A book I bought yesterday in the American book store.

Film making and acting is something that has always interested me, but never pursued as a career or hobby. Earlier this year I started directing a music video for Vika Yermolyeva – filmed with a Canon 500D, 28MM prime lens, and shot in full HD. It’s a project that still needs to be finished.

As for acting, first off I would just like to experiment by doing some readings for myself and film those for further self criticism. Sounds like fun..

The following books regarding acting I have still on my wish list:

The Moving Body (Jacques Lecoq)
Impro For Storytellers (Keith Johnston)
Improvisation for the Theatre (Viola Spolin)
An Actor Prepares (Constance Stanislavki)
Voice and the Actor (Cicely Berry)
Directing Actors (Judith Weston)
The Invisible Actor (Lorna Marshall)

Some Concept Art I produced for the U-Wars game about a year ago. Some of these were collaborative to some extend, but all 80% me for sure.

I always thought the game yielded tons of potential as I was working on the concept fase, and it sure was fun to work on.

After three long weeks I unshackled the chains that kept me in Zaandam and rushed off to Hilversum.
‘Hellversum’ is what I like to call it. But despite my love/hate relationship with that town I really need to be there at times.
It’s my hometown and I can feel it. So when I need an escape, that’s where I’ll be going. A place of familiarity, my roots.

So I packed my Ghettoblaster, took a bunch of CD’s and called my friend Maghiel on the fly. He’s a smart fellah and a good musician.
We don’t meet that often, but when we do It’s memorable. Coincidently it was his first day off when I called him, so it turned out to be an instant hit.
Then off to the forest to enjoy some Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Madseason and Devildriver.

Vika’s portrait picture really solidifies the name of my Blog. In some pictures more then others she looks like she is melting, and to be more exact; ‘a melting cat’…
However, I only decided to choose that name for my blog because I got tired of coming up with names. So in the end I decided to pick the one name I would never intend to pick.

Here is something I drafted yesterday. I was allowed to publish the image, but I can not get into any specifics at the moment.
I think the silhouette and overall shape could be stronger without changing too much. Probably something I will have to look in to when
I start more elaborate sketches on this Vehicle.

For now the concepts will have to hold since I have some good old texture work coming up for next week. It´s been a while.

Here are two T-shirt Illustrations I did a week ago for my gf Vika Yermolyeva so they can be displayed on both her website and you tube channel.

She’s a talented musician who took her background as a classical professional pianist to do something quite new. Over the last 1,5 year she produced over 300 cover songs that she arranged for Piano and published on You tube. Her videos caught the attention of thousands and her underground fan base is growing rapidly. Later this year she will release her first LP with original and cover songs under Granville Records. Her website.

February started very promising when it came to personal works and I still remember how inspired I felt.
However a variety of distractions and changes in my personal life caused my creativity to take a nosedive.

On a whole I would consider March a rather tough time and a struggle to adapt to a new social situation.
More then that of course, it also yielded wonderful moments!

Unfortunately when I don’t create at all, the good times don’t really stick that well either. Without creating anything, I guess I’ll always end up feeling numb and unfulfilled.

I’m looking forward to the remainder of April to start utilising this new Blog as the platform for all my personal art.
My other website www.ramoncontini.com will only be updated with Commercial work; Concept Art and Illustration related stuff.
